For the past five years, I have been fortunate to serve the Parkinson's Disease community in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor through exercise classes, wellness services, and support. However, as the community continues to grow, there are many needs which are being unmet. We currently meet in various facilities including churches in the community. Sometimes, our classes have to be cancelled for priority events at those locations, which leave the participants without an alternative exercise site.
A Parkinson's & Neuro Wellness Center would provide not just the corridor communities, but all of Eastern Iowa with a facility for exercise classes, wellness services such as massage and counseling, a central facility for support group meetings, educational programs and presentations, and most importantly, a facility that healthcare providers can refer newly diagnosed patients and their care partners to for resources and support in their life changing journey with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.
A fundraising page has been set up for such a facility in Cedar Rapids. This will not be an overnight journey, but with your help we can work towards opening a facility where people with Parkinson's and other movement disorders can leave the stigma of the disease at the door. This will be a place where care partners can join exercise programs to take care of themselves, or sit back and read a book while their loved one exercises. It will be a place where all loved ones can come for information and resources from the top Parkinson's associations and healthcare providers.
I hope you will join us in this fundraising endeavor. Please visit the CrowdRise website for more information or to donate
